Creation of the KOMSAE network: a new boost for entrepreneurship in Comoros
August 25, 2024Since April, cosmetics quality expert Dr. Ouswati Said Ali has been working with fifteen Comorian companies specializing in the production of cosmetics, spread across the archipelago’s three islands, to improve their competitiveness.
The in-depth diagnosis carried out by the expert identified the weak points of local companies, focusing on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and compliance with current national and international regulations. This detailed analysis revealed urgent training needs, and led to concrete recommendations for optimizing the operations of Comorian cosmetics companies. These recommendations aim to ensure that their products meet the quality standards required for competitive marketing.
Priority areas for action include identifying key activities in the manufacturing process, encouraging the use and valorization of local ingredients, and ensuring that formulation complies with regulatory standards. These measures should enable companies to strengthen their sourcing practices, while ensuring the traceability and quality of the raw materials used. The cosmetics sector in the Comoros is booming. The Comorian islands, rich in natural resources such as ylang-ylang, vanilla and cloves, offer an ideal base for the production of high-quality cosmetics, based on natural ingredients and prized worldwide.
This support is not just about technical compliance. It aims to make the Comorian cosmetics sector part of a sustainable development dynamic. By making the most of local resources such as ylang-ylang, APILE-ONUDI’s support not only meets the expectations of consumers looking for authentic, natural products, but also creates local added value and stable, sustainable jobs.
